PGA Tour Prepares for Match Play Format in 2028 Championship
The PGA Tour has announced a significant shift in its 2028 Championship format, transitioning from a traditional strokeplay to a match play system starting in 2028. This change, aimed at enhancing fan engagement, will feature 32 players divided into eight groups for a three-day initial phase, followed by a four-day head-to-head bracket. The first two players from each group will advance to the final round, where the winner will compete for the $US10 million prize. This move reflects the tour's responsiveness to fan demands for more competitive and dynamic gameplay, marking a notable evolution in the PGA Tour's history.
