HBO Max is home to fan favorites, including Succession and Game of Thrones, but you may not be as familiar with newer options on the service that deliver to the streaming masses.

Movies May 1 Wuthering Heights is one of the most enduring romance stories of all time, and the 2026 film version starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi has breathed new life into the story of Cathy and Heathcliff. Though Emerald Fennell's take on the Emily Bronté classic has its critics who don't love how stylized the film is, there's no denying that it captures the intense longing of young love (and lust). After hitting theaters earlier this year, the film is available on HBO Max starting May 1.

Over-the-top violence abounds in this DC film about supervillains who agree to help the US government in exchange for some time off their prison sentences. Their mission is to destroy something alluded to as Project Starfish, harbored in the fictional island country of Corto Maltese. With a notable cast that includes Margot Robbie, Idris Elba and John Cena, 2021's The Suicide Squad is a wickedly entertaining, darkly funny bloodbath that differs from what you usually see in superhero movies. (Peacemaker, a spin-off TV series, is also available on HBO Max.)

The VergeSilo, Dark Matter, and Sugar return, alongside a handful of all-new series.

Dark Matter Streaming on Apple TV on August 28th Based on the novel of the same name by Blake Crouch, Dark Matter is probably the trippiest entry in Apple TV’s sci-fi lineup. The first season centered on a scientist played by Joel Edgerton who… kidnapped himself, thanks to some multiverse shenanigans. According to the official description, season 2 picks up when things seem like they’re getting back to normal, though obviously they won’t stay that way for long.

CNETApple TV Plus Dark Matter What if we did things differently? We've all asked ourselves that question at least once throughout our lives. That question comes to life in Dark Matter, a high-concept twisted series based on Blake Crouch's book. The series stars Joel Edgerton as Jason, a college professor who suffers a strange assault that alters his life and reality. Jennifer Connelly, Jimmi Simpson and Alice Braga co-star alongside him in a show that'll keep you guessing until the season's finale.

Apple TV Plus Silo Using Hugh Howey's book trilogy as inspiration, Silo explores a dystopian future world where humanity's survivors live in an underground structure. Varied classist drama permeates the underground city. Population control, a murder mystery and the potentially lethal world outside keep the show humming. Rebecca Ferguson, Common and Tim Robbins lead the ensemble cast.

The VergeSilo Streaming on Apple TV on July 3rd If Fallout didn’t satiate your need for postapocalyptic stories, Silo is coming back with its own gritty take on the genre. The show is heading into its third season, and while it started out as a seemingly small mystery, its scope has steadily grown, and the new season will expand things further by detailing what happened in the distant past that destroyed the world. There’s a lot for Silo to wrap up in a small amount of time, as Apple has confirmed the series will end with season 4.

Sugar Streaming on Apple TV on June 19th Sugar is an outlier in Apple TV’s lineup in that it’s definitely a sci-fi show, but it’s also a bit of a secret. On the surface it looks like a classic noir-inspired detective story about a private eye named John Sugar (played by Colin Farrell). But thanks to a major twist in season 1 — you can read all about it right here, though, obviously, spoiler warning — it became something much bigger. Season 2 sees John take on a new case “tracking the troubled older brother of an up-and-coming local boxer, though the search for his missing sister continues.

CNETApple TV Plus Sugar Mark Protosevich, the writer responsible for movies like Thor, I Am Legend and The Cell, created Sugar -- a series that wears its love for the film noir genre on its sleeve. Visually, Sugar is a delight. Add Colin Farrell's soft-spoken, empathetic private investigator to the mix, and you have a stylish murder mystery with patience and compassion. An unexpected twist flips the show on its head later in the series, transforming the story into something else entirely.

11.22.63 is one of Stephen King's most brilliant books. The novel is a fantasy – not a horror like so many of his other works – about a man named Jake Epping who, in 2011, discovers a portal that allows him to travel back in time to 1960. Knowing what he knows about history, Jake hatches a plan to stay and live in the past so he can try to thwart the assassination of JFK and perhaps change the outcome of history as we know it. The book is a gripping story, and it was brought to the small screen in 2016 as an 8-part series, with James Franco as Epping, and co-starring Chris Cooper, Sarah Gadon, Lucy Fry, Cherry Jones and Josh Duhamel.

Stranger Things caught on like wildfire when the genre series quietly premiered its first season on Netflix in 2016. What began as an homage to '80s cinema, with callouts to E.T., Dungeons & Dragons, Goonies and the works of Stephen King, has blossomed into a layered and sweeping sci-fi adventure. The program follows a group of kids in Hawkins, Indiana, who, after meeting a mysterious girl they name Eleven, discover a sinister dimension hiding right under their feet. Government cover-ups, demonic hell-beasts and a cast full of beloved misfit characters make up this tour-de-force genre series.

Discussing what Orphan Black is about would immediately put me in spoiler territory. All you really need to know is this is one of the most thought-provoking, engaging and original sci-fi programs to hit TV in the past decade. Tatiana Maslany is the highlight; she shows off her acting skills in playing a total of 17 clones here -- each with their own mannerisms and accents.

Time loop stories are nothing new in the sci-fi world but Russian Doll still manages to etch its own unique space in the genre. Natasha Lyonne stars as a woman who gets stuck in said loop on her 36th birthday and every time she dies, she restarts her day. Themes of grief, generational trauma and addiction permeate the show, making this more than a simple run-of-the-mill comedy.

May 14 Actor Jason Momoa has several passions (like rock-climbing), and his HBO Max travel series On The Roam allows him to seek out equally passionate people to meet and share their stories. On the show, Momoa travels all over the world, often on his motorcycle, meeting fellow creative minds, like artist and filmmaker Julian Schnabel and Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett, who inspire him. The six-episode season will premiere on May 14 and new episodes drop weekly until June 18.

That’s followed by a mix of original trilogy and prequel trilogy titles: The Phantom Menace, The Empire Strikes Back, Revenge of the Sith, Attack of the Clones, and Return of the Jedi. At number eight was Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the movie that first introduced Andor‘s protagonist and sets up that series.

03 The Verge I haven’t quite figured out the reason why, but for the last few years, summer has become the moment for new science fiction shows on streaming services. And 2026 isn’t any different — aside from the fact that premiere dates seem to be moving up a little.
