El-Sayed initially condemned the attack, saying there was “no room for antisemitism in America.” But in a video released the following day, he went further, linking the attempted attack to the deaths of the gunman’s relatives in joint U.S.-Israeli airstrikes.

To be sure, some of Ossoff's strength with independents may be more about voters' discomfort with his Republican opponent, Congressman Mike Collins, who falsely insists Trump won the 2020 election in Georgia and has not disavowed his son-in-law's social media posts containing white nationalist content and antisemitic conspiracy theories.

Speaking to reporters Thursday, Ossoff called out “yet another connection” between Collins and white nationalism and “neo-Nazi ideology.”

On Thursday, the Washington Post reported that an ex-staffer for Collins, Preston Parra, who has described himself as a “twink fascist” on his X account, shared images in June and July of a swastika and one that depicts himself in Ku Klux Klan robes. The posts are still there, along with others in which Parra repeatedly casually uses the N-word, quotes Nazi song lyrics and uses the phrase “White Power”.

In the looming midterms, Collins is challenging Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff in Georgia in a critical battle that could determine who controls the Senate.

The comments come as Michigan Democrats remain divided over El-Sayed, a left-wing Senate candidate who defeated Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI) in the Democratic primary and is now the party’s nominee for the U.S. Senate seat.

Dana Nessel, the state’s attorney general, has faced anti-Semitic harassment and has said that she plans to skip the state party’s August convention rather than endure more abuse. At the party’s April nominating caucus, Mallory McMorrow, a then-candidate for Senate, reported that her Jewish husband was subjected to an anti-Semitic slur. On the weekend before the primary, Walter Masterson, a left-wing streamer who has appeared with El-Sayed, disrupted an event for Haley Stevens, El-Sayed’s pro-Israel opponent in the Democratic primary, forcing the brewery hosting it to cancel the event. El-Sayed did not condemn the bully-boy tactics used on his behalf.

Piker blamed the pro-Israel lobby. He claimed that an “AIPAC boss call was made” and that the lawmakers criticizing him were “unanimous in their hatred,” and suggested tallying how much AIPAC money his critics had taken. He also called the backlash a “coordinated smear campaign.”

Ossoff, Georgia's first Jewish senator, says his support for Israel is ironclad. That commitment has been questioned by some Jewish Georgians, who have criticized some of his votes.
