Dodgers Add Edwin Diaz to Injured List, Emmet Sheehan Expected for Bullpen Support
-
The Dodgers are placing All-Star closer Edwin Diaz on the injured list, according to The Athletic. Early word is that it's some sort of "upper body" injury that's sending Díaz back to the IL, not his surgically-repaired elbow, via The Athletic. Díaz was on the injured list earlier this season after having surgery to remove loose bodies from his pitching elbow. He was placed on the IL on April 20 and came off on July 29.

ESPNDodgers put Diaz on IL, watch Ohtani throw bullpen The Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday put Edwin Diaz, who is 2-2 with an 11.85 ERA and seven saves in 11 opportunities in 16 games, on the injured list because of inflammation in the right side of his neck, while Shohei Ohtani threw another bullpen session.
Bleacher ReportKatie Woo of The Athletic first reported Dodgers will place Díaz on the injured list. The right-hander was activated from the 60-day injured list in July following elbow surgery and has struggled to regain his prior form.

Since the All-Star break, Ohtani's batting average has actually gone up from .293 to .295. He also has seven home runs and 20 RBIs in that span. Like PCA, on Monday night, Ohtani went 4-5 and hit two home runs against the Rockies. However, his great game was overshadowed by PCA's signature moment in what continues to be an epic back-and-fourth MVP showdown between two of the game's best.

However, the biggest reason for Ohtani's slide over the past month has been the lingering soreness in his left knee, which has kept him off the mound. Ohtani has not pitched since July 3, and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has emphasized that the team plans to be cautious with his return.
