Cherki has a reputation for unpredictability, with Maresca saying after his contribution against Bournemouth that "if he is not happy he wants to show it".

Redknapp believes Maresca must trust in Cherki's talent. "If there was one criticism of his time at Chelsea it was getting Cole Palmer on the ball enough. I know he had some injuries but it was finding him in the right positions.

Five minutes after his super solo effort, Cherki decided to take the sting out of Palace's newly found momentum, instantly responding to their goal with an audacious strike that deflected past Henderson.

And after Palace pulled one back, it was Cherki who once again restored that two-goal advantage with a rising right-foot shot from 20 yards past Henderson.

Cherki, though, was in fine form and restored City's two-goal advantage two minutes later when his deflected shot from just outside the box wrong-footed keeper Dean Henderson.

"Eden Hazard possibly, he was that kind of player. Georgi Kinkladze, there'll be Manchester City fans from a previous generation who'll remember him, who could get past people in a telephone box. This was very similar.

Is there anything Cherki can do differently? Redknapp just wants to see him try more not less.
