The green X-shaped scatter cushion and thumbstick-inspired stool are among the most Xbox-coded pieces in the Yxstaby collection. Ikea says the stool was developed using original 3D design files for the Xbox controller, with the grippy textured surface now serving to prevent your butt from slipping around instead of sweaty thumbs. The lounge chair comes with a mesh pocket on the underside that’s designed to store your game controllers, but it also looks roomy enough for wider items like magazines and large books.

WiredThe star of the Yxstaby gaming collection is unquestionably the thumbstick stool, though. Ikea designer David Wahl, who queued all night 25 years ago to get his hands on the very first Xbox, persuaded the Xbox designers to hand over the controller's original 3D design files so he could manipulate them to iterate on different ideas.

At Gamescom, Asus declared the next version of the Xbox Ally X, named the Xbox Ally X20, will arrive on store shelves Oct. 15. And here’s what you really want to know: it will cost you $1,300. That’s $300 more than the previous-gen Asus ROG Xbox Ally X, though the new version does come with a few standout additions—most notably a larger, 7.4-inch OLED display.

The VergeThe Asus Xbox Ally X20 looked like it could be one of the best handheld gaming PCs yet made — but originally, Asus wanted you to buy a bundle pairing it with pricy AR glasses. In July, we told you that bundle would no longer be necessary, and today it’s official: you can pre-order a standalone handheld at Best Buy or Asus’s online store for $1,300, shipping October 15th.
EngadgetAlternatively, for anyone looking for a kit that comes with everything you might need to play PC games on the go in style, the ROG XBOX Ally X20 will also be available as part of a bundle that includes the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR Glasses, a Dbrand Killswitch shell, a 68-watt power adapter and a custom Pelican Protector Case for $2,499.

Elsewhere, the ROG XBOX Ally X20's specs are largely unchanged, as it features the same AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip, 24GB of shared RAM, 1TB SSD and 80Whr battery we've seen before. The X20 also features a familiar button layout with customizable paddles in back and upgraded magnetic joysticks. Aside from its display and improved analog sticks, the lack of other new components isn't a bad thing as the original model was one of the more performant handhelds on sale. That said, it should be mentioned that more recent rivals like the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ offer an even higher tier of gaming prowess in exchange for a much steeper $1,800 price tag. Unfortunately, while the ROG XBOX Ally X20 is cheaper, it has gotten its own price hike to $1,300 compared to $1,000 for the original.

GizmodoWe’ll see for ourselves how well the Asus ROG Xbox X20 stacks up later this year. Asus’ latest darling for mobile gaming is based on the same AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip as the previous version. It will compete against other Intel-based handhelds launched this year, like the $1,800 MSI Claw 8 EX AI+. The Intel Arc G3 chip indeed offers better performance than the AMD processor, but for $500 less, I wouldn’t blame anybody for jumping for the prettier device.

01 Wired Hearing the Xbox team—including Carl Ledbetter, head of Xbox devices design—was in Milan at the same time, Ikea product design developer Philip Dilé wanted to show off the company's latest creations, the Brännboll gaming collection, that pleasingly stepped away from sharp edges, RGB lighting, and a black color palette.

02 The Verge “How people play at home has shifted, and it is as much about relaxing and connecting with others as it is about performing, which changes what the space has to do,” said Ikea product design developer, Philip Dilé. “Together, we set out to make furniture people really want in their home, not furniture they accept because it is what you need to game.”

03 Engadget This includes a keyboard, earbuds, mobile controllers and more. It's been nearly 25 years since the very first Xbox console hit store shelves. To commemorate the occasion, Microsoft just revealed a whole bunch of hardware peripherals from several different manufacturers.

04 Gizmodo This kind of innovation worked well for Valve when it transitioned from the original Steam Deck to the Steam Deck OLED in 2023. The later model was not only prettier, but the improved internals also led to longer battery life and battery thermal management. Then again, that was in the era when new devices like that cost $550 compared to the original’s $520 for the same amount of storage. A Steam Deck OLED with a comparable 1TB of storage now costs $950.
