“I think that ultimately it’s up to the voters. And not every voter is going to vote, you know, on racial lines,” Manley said. “I think it’s cynical for the congresswoman to carpetbag into a district and try to take away black representation in a split field.”

Manley acknowledged concerns that the crowded field could split the black vote and help Wasserman Schultz win the Democratic nomination. Former Democratic Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, who resigned in April after she was accused of stealing disaster relief money, is running for the seat again. Additionally, former rapper Luther “Uncle Luke” Campbell and former Broward County Mayor Dale Holness are seeking the nomination.

Can socialists make history in Florida? In one House primary race, activist and union organizer Oliver Larkin, a member of the Democratic Socialist of America, is challenging two-term Democratic Rep. Jared Moskowitz in Florida's newly mapped 25th Congressional District. The matchup is a direct result of state Republican lawmakers redrawing and eliminating Moskowitz's former district and replacing it with one that leans toward Republicans.

The issue of U.S. support for Israel is playing out in other races, including the Democratic primary in Florida's 25th District, where incumbent Rep. Jared Moskowitz is trying to fend off a challenge from progressive Oliver Larkin. Moskowitz has been a supporter of Israel, while Larkin has called for the U.S. to cut off aid.

“Two years ago, Moskowitz wasn’t even challenged by anyone from the Democrat side,” Concha said on Fox Business’s Varney & Company Monday, pointing to Rep. Jared Moskowitz’s (D-FL) primary battle against challenger Oliver Larkin, who is backed by the Democratic Socialists of America.

The Florida primary marks the latest major midterm test of DSA strength before the general election, after the group suffered a setback the week prior when socialist Francesca Hong lost her bid for Wisconsin governor to Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, a more mainstream Democrat, 39.8%-39.4%.

"Hakeem Jeffries is the top leader, the Democrat leader in the House. But he lost his slate of candidates in his own backyard," Johnson said. "Several weeks ago, you saw Mamdani endorsed a slate of radical far-left candidates, DSA-approved and endorsed candidates, and they all won. And one of those races was in the Bronx, in Hakeem Jeffries' own backyard."

In New York, DSA-backed House candidates have ousted several incumbent and establishment-backed Democrats in primaries, with support from Mayor Zohran Mamdani helping energize the city’s progressive movement.

The movement scored another huge win earlier this month when Michigan Democrats nominated Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate, delivering a humiliating blow to the party establishment, which failed to stop him from advancing to a pivotal November showdown with Trump-endorsed Republican Mike Rogers. Results showed El-Sayed won younger and more educated voters, while his establishment-backed rival, Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI), performed strongest among black and working-class voters, highlighting the DSA disconnect with traditionally faithful Democratic voting blocs.

Democrats also have their eyes on red-leaning Alaska, where Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan is running for re-election and is expected to face a formidable challenge from former Democratic Rep. Mary Peltola.

Then there's Florida state Rep. Angie Nixon, a DSA member, who is running in the Senate Democratic primary against Alex Vindman, the retired Army lieutenant colonel who gave critical evidence during Trump's first impeachment.

Former Republican Rep. David Jolly, who became a Democrat last year, is the best-known candidate running for his party's gubernatorial nomination. No Democrat has won an election for Florida governor in more than three decades.
