Final Score: Bengals 38, Ravens 35 Week 12: Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions 5 of 10When you gather with family and friends to celebrate Thanksgiving this year, buckle up—because the holiday slate is the best in recent memory. Maybe ever.

Yahoo SportsPatriots through Thanksgiving. This is the big three games in 12 days that everyone is talking about. The Patriots game will be a good test for the Lions going up against the defending AFC Champions. What I’m more interested in is how will Detroit perform against Tampa Bay after playing overseas. Then, on three days rest, they host the Chicago Bears on Thanksgiving. If the Lions can win two out of the three, I’ll take it.

Ryan Mathews: Week 1 through Week 5 While the stretch of games from Week 10 through Week 12 is undoubtedly brutal, the Lions need to set the tone long before those games are even played. Detroit must take advantage of the open to their schedule. We’re talking winning a minimum four out of their first five contests to maximize the benefits of having that fourth-place schedule. There’s no shame in losing to the Buffalo Bills in Week 2, but dropping any of the other four games against the New Orleans Saints, New York Jets, Carolina Panthers, or Arizona Cardinals—a group that combined for a 20-48 record in 2025—could prove costly as the schedule ramps up at the end of October.

SB NationNFC North Detroit Lions: 12-5 (2) The Lions will bounce back after a down year in 2025. Switching play-callers midseason and dealing with a litany of injuries, once again, was never going to end well. Drew Petzing should do the offense a lot of good, and Jared Goff and Co. should be one of the most dangerous units in the league, once again.
-
That was the case a year ago as well, when the Lions and Green Bay Packers met. Detroit came up short 31-24, and that was the beginning of a 2-4 finish to the season that resulted in the Lions missing the postseason.

Yahoo SportsThe two biggest blemishes for Detroit last season were they looked lifeless for much of December and they were embarrassed by division rivals Green Bay and Minnesota. Their final four-game stretch in 2026—featuring three divisional road games and a primetime “Monday Night Football” matchup with the Giants—will likely determine their postseason fate and whether they enter the playoffs with momentum.
-
After going a combined 10-2 within the division over the previous two seasons (2023-24) before slipping to 2-4 last year, reclaiming the NFC North crown down the stretch will be critical.

Bleacher ReportThat slate will begin—as it always does—with a game in Detroit. And this time around, that game carries major stakes in the NFC North.

The NFL's 2026 schedule is out. The league will be opening the 2026 regular season with a Super Bowl rematch. The Seattle Seahawks are set to take on the New England Patriots in the first game of the season.

Bleacher ReportWant evidence that the NFL is the unquestioned king of American sports? Even something as innocuous as the release of the 2026 NFL schedule is enough to generate a flood of attention and excitement. The release itself is a made-for-TV event. Afterward, all 32 teams put out fun little schedule release videos.
SB NationNew England Patriots: 9-8 I spent all of 2025 saying that the schedule excuse is a bogus one to make against the Patriots. They didn’t just beat the bad teams they faced, they beat the hell out of them, and Drake Maye is a top 10 quarterback in the league. If they get A.J. Brown, maybe this number jumps up a game or two, but the Dianna Russini shaped cloud over the team is one that is gonna rain on them all season, and that’s a real distraction. That will play a much larger role in their Super Bowl hangover than the schedule they face.

The Jaguars were one of the bigger surprises of the 2025 campaign, winning nine of their last 10 games a year ago to finish 13-4 and win the AFC South. The Texans weren't far behind—they won 10 of 11 down the stretch last year to finish 12-5 and both make the playoffs and win a postseason game for the third time in as many years with C.J. Stroud under center.

SB NationAFC South Houston Texans: 11-6 (4) I don’t see the Texans’ offense being a top 10 unit, but it doesn’t have to be with the best defense in the NFL. They just have to be better than what we saw in the postseason, which isn’t a high bar as C.J. Stroud spent two weeks seeing how many time he could give the ball to the other team. Stroud will bounce back and the defense will do a lot of heavy lifting to get them their third AFC South title in four years.
Yahoo SportsThe Texans score quickly, and the Jags score another touchdown. Josh Hines-Allen tips Stroud’s pass, and with the help of Antonio Johnson, the game is sealed for the Jaguars.
-
AFC West Kansas City Chiefs: 13-4 (1) The Chiefs will get right back on the horse and win the division. Patrick Mahomes will be back by Week 1, and the return of Eric Bieniemy is going to be a massive boost to an offense that has lacked explosiveness. The Chiefs have never had a 1,000-yard rusher in the Mahomes era - Kenneth Walker will be a massive boost to that offense.

Bleacher ReportBy the time Week 12 rolls around, the Buffalo Bills will likely be in the thick of the chase in the AFC East. Whether the Kansas City Chiefs are in similar position in the AFC West depends largely on Patrick Mahomes' early-season availability and what kind of shape he's in when he does retake the field. But Mahomes should be close to 100 percent come Turkey Day.

For the Eagles, last year the issue was offense—despite having quarterback Jalen Hurts, running back Saquon Barkley and a solid cadre of pass-catchers, the Eagles were 24th in the league in total offense. If that offense struggles to find consistency again this year, the door will be opened for a team like the Cowboys to claim the division.

SB NationNFC East Dallas Cowboys: 11-6 (3) The Cowboys have one of the most high-flying offenses in the league with Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and George Pickens. The offense wasn’t their issue in 2025, though, it was their secondary that gave up the most deep touchdowns in the NFL. However, adding Caleb Downs and Jalen Thompson, and Cobie Durant will drastically improve a defense that ranked 30th in EPA per dropback and help Dallas win the division.
-
The New Orleans Saints have maintained firm control of their NFC South rivalry against the Carolina Panthers over the past three seasons. Having won five of their last seven games against Carolina, including both games in 2025, the Saints will now look to continue their dominance into the 2026 season.

SB NationNFC South New Orleans Saints: 9-8 (4) The Saints may be my biggest pet team of 2026. Their offseason was tremendous, adding Travis Etienne and Jordyn Tyson to their offense to aid young quarterback Tyler Shough. Considering how well Shough and the Saints played in the final month of 2025, they carry over that momentum with several roster upgrades and win the NFC South.
-
NFC West Los Angeles Rams: 13-4 (1) The Rams were the best team in the league a year ago, and they got better. Adding Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson to a secondary that needed upgrading addressed their biggest need on the roster. The offense will remain as dangerous as any in the league with reigning MVP Matthew Stafford, Puka Nacua, and Davante Adams all returning. They’ll win the division and be the No. 1 seed.

Bleacher ReportThe Rams might be the league's best team on paper—an already-loaded roster addressed its biggest need in the offseason with the acquisitions of cornerbacks Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson. If the Rams play to their potential in 2026, Los Angeles is going to be the toughest of outs.

Seattle, which had an impressive 29-13 win over the Patriots in Super Bowl LX, was linked to several different opponents for the Week 1 game. Some thought a Week 1 matchup against the Rams or 49ers would be fun. Others felt that a big name in the AFC could travel to Seattle for Week 1.

Bleacher ReportWeek 1: New England Patriots at Seattle Seahawks 1 of 10On some level, it seems a bit odd to call a Week 1 matchup "pivotal." Yes, this Thursday night rematch of Super Bowl LX is a big game, but it's not like the team that comes up short is doomed.

4 of 10This is the first matchup in this piece featuring two teams that both missed the postseason a year ago. But make no mistake: While the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals were also-rans a year ago, they are arguably the top contenders in the AFC North.

Yahoo SportsThis is going to be a spotlight moment for a Bengals team that wants to prove itself a contender. It’s one global stage and two national primetime games against would-be contenders during a stretch of year that can swing a season in either direction.

01 Yahoo Sports This is the part of the offseason where football fans are arrested to counting off days on the calendar. We won’t see the Detroit Lions take the field to play football for some time now, but at least we have the schedule for when it will all eventually happen!
-
02 SB Nation As my eyes grew as tired as my ears listening to Dan Orlovsky talk about how every team will win 11 games in 2026, I sat and predicted every game on the 2026 slate immediately following the schedule release. I then proceeded to lead Slippery Rock to a 103-7 win over NC State in my College Football 26 online dynasty as everyone else in the league shook in their boots like a sinner on judgement day.

03 Bleacher Report And then the fun really begins. From the moment the schedule comes out, fans start mapping out wins and losses. Pundits start plotting out the biggest matchups of the year. It is not an exaggeration to say that while you are reading this, someone is planning a trip to see what they consider a "can't-miss" game in 2026.
